Previous

Cranial osteopathy is a gentle type of osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body, including the head and face. This gentle approach is suitable for the newborn, infants, and children, as well as adults.

Cranial osteopathy can be used to treat babies and young children with, e.g.,

- colic
- feeding difficulties
- sickness
- sleep disturbances
- breathing problems
- ear infections
- asthma

It is recommended that babies be checked over soon after delivery to ensure that the stresses and strains of delivery have dissipated.

Some learning and behavioural problems in children respond well to cranial osteopathy.

Cranial osteopathy is important in the treatment of adults who have experienced,

- dental trauma
- head trauma
- concussion
- whiplash injuries
- bad falls
- recurrent infections
- head pain
- some types of tinnitus

Cranial osteopathy was developed by Dr. William Garner Sutherland, extending the principles of osteopathic treatment to the head and face. He was a student of the founder of osteopathy in the early 1900's and spent decades studying and developing the gentle forms of treatment we use today.
