Traditional Chinese herbal medicine can be used to treat a wide variety of consitions. Herbs can be taken as tea, granules, powders, tablets or capsules. Kanpo is a form of herbal medicine developed in Japan. Kanpo herbs are usually taken in smaller doses either as granules or tablets.

Oriental herbs can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as,

- skin diseases, e.g.,
eczema
psoriasis
acne
urticaria
dermatitis
rosacea
- digestive disorders, e.g.,
irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
ulcerative colitis
constipation
gall stones
- menstrual problems, e.g.,
painful periods
endometriosis
irregular periods
pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS)
- respiratory conditions, e.g.,
asthma
chronic rhinitis
hayfever
sinusitis
bronchitis
persistant coughs
- urinary tract problems, e.g.,
chronic cystitis
urethritis
- rheumatoid and osteoarthritis
- ME and chronic fatigue syndrom
- hepatitis
- HIV / AIDS
- phsychological problems, e.g.,
anxiety
depression
- childhood diseases
- infertility

Both Kanpo and the Chinese herbal medicines can be used on their own, or in conjunction with acupuncture.

Herbs can only be prescribed after a detailed consultation with, and diagnosis by, a qualified practitioner.

Herbs used by City Health Centre are in accordances with CITES (Convention on International Trade and Endangered Species) guidelines and contain no material from endangered species.
